The personal shrine in Mr. Sharma's home

One day we visited a local temple, the Shromani. The temple compound is encircled by living quarters. A young boy invited us into a house where we were greeted by a government fruit inspector named Sushil Kumar Sharma, who proudly showed us around his lovely apartment. He also showed us a photograph of Roger Moore sitting with him in his living room; much of "Octopussy" was filmed here in Udaipur.

When we left Mr. Sharma's home, a young girl, Latha Chohan, ran up to show us her scrapbook. We had tea with her family. Her father was a tailor, and we bought a shirt. Latha lived with her parents, two sisters, and one brother in a two-room apartment with a corrugated tin roof, sharing a neighborhood bathroom.

We finally flew back to Delhi and found a room. The air in Delhi was horribly polluted, even on this Sunday. But it was hot, so we went to a nearby hotel to pay an exorbitant fee and use their pool for one last swim in India.

Interesting Signs we Saw in India:
Competent Associates - Roadside advertising
Inertia Industries - A sign on the Delhi-Jaipur highway
Harmless Medicine - the name of a pharmacy in Nawalghar
Macro Man Briefs - A brand of men's underwear
Most Thrilling Chilled - the slogan of Kingfisher beer
Sleek and Krazy Line - A widely-advertised brand of clothing
